These recipes are known as country survival comfort food. Have eaten all of them. Very tasty
Ambrosia salad was common on our table all my life. I’m 63 now. So was Mac n cheese, spaghetti and a goulash made of ground beef, kidney beans, celery, onions, garlic, whole tomatoes crushed, tomato paste , a little chili powder salt and pepper. Also, meatloaf, porcupine meatballs, the occasional potroast, baked chicken and mashed potatoes with chicken gravy. Yum.
Do not have so many commercials for basic crap.
I grew up on beans and cornbread. Sliced raw onions were always on the table too.
If summertime, fresh maters from the garden.
I still refuse to believe we were “poor”. Never missed a meal and never had to go without.
Life was much simpler then.
Butter beans and Lima beans are two different things in the south.
